MACGREGOR

Being a recipient of the Max Finney Foundation Scholarship has had a meaningful impact on both my education and my development as a young man. The scholarship provided financial support that helped make my educational opportunities possible, but its impact has extended far beyond that. Through the Foundation, I have been surrounded by a community of men who strive for excellence in their faith, character, and leadership. The relationships, mentorship, and example set by the Finney family and fellow scholars have challenged me to grow into a more disciplined, responsible, and purpose-driven man. The community and Catholic driven culture caused me to be confirmed in the Catholic Church during my senior year and find a love for God I had never known.

The scholarship has also given me confidence as I prepare for the future. Knowing that others have invested in my success has motivated me to work harder in the classroom, on the football field, and in my personal life. The values of service, integrity, and perseverance that the Foundation promotes will continue to guide me as I pursue my goals and seek opportunities to positively impact those around me. Overall, The Max Finney Foundation has taught me not only to strive for greatness and live my life to the MAX, but to slow down and appreciate the community around me.

This fall, I will attend the University of Wyoming, where I will major in Political Science while continuing my football career. I am excited for the opportunities ahead, both academically and athletically, and I am grateful for the role the Max Finney Foundation has played in helping me reach this point. As I begin this next chapter, I hope to honor Max’s legacy by striving for excellence, serving others, and making the most of the opportunities I have been given.

DOMINIC

Dominic is the oldest of four siblings, who all share the common bond of joining their family through adoption. At two years old, he was diagnosed with a rare disease, Langerhan’s Cell Hystiocytosis, which was treated and healed with the help of an amazing medical team and a year of chemotherapy. Homeschooled through eighth grade, Dominic is now thriving at Frassati Catholic High School. He loves playing soccer, spending time in the weight room, enjoying time with family and friends, and making people smile and laugh. Dominic is honored to serve at the altar at his parish, where he organized and initiated a fraternal group of young men who strive for heaven through prayer, discipline, and community. As his youngest brother has cerebral palsy and cannot walk, service to others and respect for all life comes naturally to him and is built into everyday life. He has also enjoyed visiting the homeless and having meaningful conversations with a few individuals, enabling him to have a better understanding of their struggles and triumphs. Though he is unsure what college or career path he will ultimately choose, he is sure it will have to include working face to face with people and he hopes it will include soccer at the college level.

ANDRES

Andres is a freshman at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. His favorite class is Geometry, and has enjoyed learning Theology as well this year. He loves soccer and is a captain of the Freshman soccer team at Strake. In middle school, he developed a love for music and plays the cello in the school orchestra. Outside of school he plays club soccer and aspires to continue playing in college. He enjoys going on trips with his family, especially to their home country of Colombia. He hopes to study abroad in Europe and continue learning German. He is interested in studying to become an orthopedic doctor or an engineer after college.

STEFANO

The Max Finney scholarship did more than just fund my high school education, a gift which however cannot be undermined. However, there have been other, more personal effects on my life. The Max Finney scholarship has had a ripple effect for my whole family. The aid they provided in financing my high school education in turn also helped my parents and siblings in many other smaller yet significant ways. Second, the Foundation surrounded me with great people, both the Finneys themselves as well as the scholars. Being in their presence pushed me to imitate them. Every scholar I have met has been a unique and interesting individual, often inspiring in me both humility as well as admiration. Meeting the Finneys has been a great experience because they are extremely joyful people, and cheerfulness is always contagious.

Next year, I will be studying Chemical Engineering at Rice University. There, I hope to carry with me the impressions of these people with whom I have passed my high school years.
