Max Finney Foundation Scholarship

As a key component of Max’s legacy, here are the young men to whom the Max Finney Foundation awarded scholarships for the first time in 2019. We hope you join us in heart-felt congratulations and support.

The Max Finney Foundation scholarships are granted to young men who will be attending high quality private education at middle and high schools in the greater Houston area.  These young men should be of sound character, good scholars, involved in the school and community, and exhibit leadership.

We’re all incredibly excited to engage with these upstanding gentlemen throughout their journey and wish them well in their endeavors.

2019 Scholarship Awardees

FEDERICO “FEDE”

Fede attends Frassati Catholic High School, and his favorite classes have to be ethics and history. Why? History is an amazing subject due to the fact that the past has an almost infinite amount of knowledge. History also presents us with morals and teachings of how to act, based off the errors and achievements of historical figures. The ethics class is extremely impactful because it is in this class where we are taught how to live a good and honest life in the real world. The best part is that in ethics we are taught how to defend the truth. At Frassati he is a core member of the World Language Club, a house representative for the city of Turin, and an ambassador for shadows. During the Winter season he will be playing soccer, and during the fall he will be playing Tennis. His hobbies include playing sports, such as soccer, basketball and Tennis. Other hobbies are acting and watching movies with his Family. In the future he would like to become a Pediatrician and a strong Pro-Life advocate. A place he would really enjoy visiting is Italy, particularly Vatican City in order to visit the Pope.

ATHAN

Athan is an eighth grader at St. Anne Catholic School in Tomball, Texas. He is an athlete with a love of many sports. His favorite sports include baseball, basketball, and soccer. Athan’s other interests include fishing, camping, and exploring the outdoors. When he is not outside, or on the sports field you can find him with his youth group at Prince of Peace. His travel dreams include going to the mountains in the winter to learn how to snowboard and again in the spring to camp, hike and fish. Countries he looks forward to visiting include Australia where he has cousins and Canada to visit friends who could show him the beautiful sights. In the future Athan hopes to pursue a career in architecture, criminal law, or a position in the armed forces.

DOUG

At Strake Jesuit, Doug enjoys competing in Cross Country and Track and Field, as well as in the classroom. His favorite subjects this year include AP Computer Science Principles, and Spanish 4. He finds excitement in the challenges that these courses bring, and he cannot wait to dive deeper into them as the school year progresses. He has been competing in Cross Country and Track since his sixth grade year of middle school. Running at Jesuit is continuing to shape him into the determined and persevering man he wants to become. One of his lifetime goals is to someday become a Team USA Track and Field Athlete, and he continues to work vigorously in high school to achieve that goal. He is also active in Boy Scout Troop 354 here in Houston, Texas. As a Life Scout, he is striving to reach the summit of Eagle Scout within the next year, earning merit badges and envisioning Eagle Scout Service Project ideas. He has developed a deep love for foreign cultures both in middle school at AOS and at Jesuit, and aspires to learn more global languages and explore various cultural environments during my lifetime. He has enjoyed learning what life is like in other countries through recent cultural immersion and service trips to Peru and Spain.
