The Max Finney Foundation is pleased to announce the awardees for the 2022 Max Finney Foundation Scholarship. This is the fourth year that we have been blessed to be able to bestow these scholarships on these young men. There were so many amazing candidates which gives us great hope for the future! Please join us in heart-felt congratulations and thank you so much for your continued support.

The Max Finney Foundation scholarships are granted to young men who will be attending high quality private education at middle and high schools in the greater Houston area.  These young men should be of sound character, good scholars, involved in the school and community, and exhibit leadership.

We’re all incredibly excited to engage with these upstanding gentlemen throughout their journey and wish them well in their endeavors. Here are the young men to whom the Max Finney Foundation awarded scholarships for 2022.

Leo has played football, rugby, and has run track, but he particularly enjoys soccer. At Frassati, Leo is a part of many clubs such as the Swing Dance Club and the Culture of Life Club and will be trying out the Debate club this upcoming year. He enjoys learning about history and learning new languages such as French. Recently, Leo has developed an interest in playing the guitar and hopes to continue playing it for the rest of his life. He also enjoys pastimes like fishing, reading, and biking. Leo has a heart for the mountains, especially the Rockies. He dreams of traveling around the world to countries in Europe and Asia. Leo is interested in taking on a medical career but is still open to what life will give him.

CHARLIE

Charlie is a native Houstonian and is an eighth grader at St. Anne Catholic school in Tomball, Texas. He is passionate about sports and can cite statistics about most of them! Charlie plays baseball, soccer, cross country/track and field, and basketball - his favorite sport. He holds high standards for himself and is competitive both on the field and in the classroom. Charlie’s favorite school subjects are math and drama. He played the lead role in his school’s play, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a perfect role for Charlie given his name! He participates in Boy Scout Troop 324 and especially loves to go camping and rock climbing with his troop. Charlie attends St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church where he is active in the youth group and enjoys meeting up with his friends and talking about getting closer with God. When Charlie grows up, he would love to visit Europe to try the wonderful foods and see the amazing art and history. He would also like to go to Africa to see all of the wildlife. Charlie’s hobbies include working with technology, making games with friends, playing basketball, running in his neighborhood, playing with his three brothers, and a good game of chess.

MARTIN

Martin, born in Pearland Texas, attends Strake Jesuit and is class of 2025. On campus, Martin enjoys all his classes especially Theology and AP History because it satiates his avid desire for knowledge and promotes critical thinking. Outside the classroom, Martin is an athlete who’s not afraid to take a dive into the unknown. Freshman year, he dropped his cross-country times dramatically, became district champion wrestler for the 152lbs junior varsity weight class despite never wrestling before, and tried his hand at rugby. Although he didn’t play soccer or run track and field for school this year, Martin enjoys participating in those sports as well. Off campus, Martin is an Eagle Scout and is using his skills learned to teach younger scouts. Not willing to stop his growth at Eagle, Martin is now challenging himself by staffing National Youth Leadership Training, and later joining Venture Crew BSA. Martin is constantly looking outward on the adventures that the world has to offer, even hoping to attend World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in the summer of 2023. Martin’s ambition to expand his world imploring other cultures leads him to learn several other languages, such as Korean, Spanish, and Arabic. Regardless of where he is, Martin is looking to better himself, deepen his faith, and explore the world.
